Economic slow downs and corporate bail outs...For many, times are more challenging, unpredictable and discomfiting. Now more than ever, we can all benefit from efforts to maintain proper and healthy life perspectives. It is when such mental alterations are made that our health, family and friends and their well-being take on a deserved role of importance and we become less apprehensive about the unknown.

Despite the bad news out of Washington, which is heralded daily in every news source, I'm looking forward to the holidays and spending time with family members I rarely get the chance to see.

Instead of splurging for gifts or fixating on holiday menus, I encourage you to spend time creating some of these simple and affordable hand-made gifts and inspire your kids or grandkids to do the same.

I embolden you to regard this time as an opportunity to demonstrate perseverance, patience and contentment. Such proposed dispositions will certainly leave a better taste in your mouth than the bitterness of worry, dissatisfaction or regret.

Holiday Miniatures

Holiday miniatures add whimsy to a home's holiday decor, but pieces often tip over or shift from their intended place, making them an ongoing holiday maintenance task.

Consider keeping these decorations in place by attaching Removable Glue Dots® to miniature pieces. Removable Glue Dots® firmly hold items in place, but remove without leaving messy residues.

Holiday Countdown Chain

Every year my sister and I looked forward to creating a holiday countdown chain. We would cut 25 narrow strips of holiday patterned paper or red and green construction paper to create the chain and then adhere a small piece of candy to each festive paper link. Whoever removed the link that day, would get the candy. After we removed the candy we would then carefully count the remaining links. This was most certainly mom's way of heading off the daily asked question, "how many days till Christmas"?

This traditional holiday decoration is easy to make. Use Craft Glue Dots® to create the paper links and Removable Glue Dots® to adhere wrapped candy. Then display the chain on the tree or a wreath.

Elf Candy Cane Holder

Kids will enjoy creating their very own candy cane holder. This jolly elf, made using an acrylic photo cube and various colored foam, embraces your child's candy cane stash and serves as a great holiday decoration.
